The Training and Education initiative has the capacity to significantly contribute to the journey of healing for communities across the country. We have appointed a Training and Education Advisory committee made up of Board Members and external expertise.
The key outcomes sought by the Training and Education Initiative are:
- Healing education and learning across Indigenous communities
- Supporting an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workforce in healing practices in response to trauma
- Generational knowledge and skills transfer including training of community in healing initiatives
- Fostering a supportive public environment for healing
Key activities in this area currently are:
Funding rounds
The education and training initiative provides resources to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations so they can work with community members to further the discussion on trauma, and enable a healing process to begin. The initiative also assists Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island workers to be better resourced to deal with the distress in our communities and provide healing to our people.
The Healing Foundation is currently assessing funding applications and these grants will be announced early February.
Healing Institute
We are exploring methods to ensure that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities have access to an appropriately trained and qualified healing workforce. The Healing Foundation is undertaking a feasibility study to provide a detailed report about the best ways to achieve this aim.
Healing Forums
Healing Forums are being run across Australia to provide opportunities for engagement with communities in developing the place of healing within a national context.
- Adding community voices to the Healing Foundation’s understanding of what is healing
- Building community support for the national message and place of healing
- Support policy and advocacy platforms developed by the Healing Foundation
- Highlight the importance of healing to community, state and federal government
- Showcase the work being undertaken by healing programs
