Healing Foundation announced as NRL charity partner
The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Healing Foundation has extended its relationship with the NRL through a charity partnership.
The announcement was made in Sydney today by ARL Indigenous Council Chairman, Mr William “Smiley” Johnstone in conjunction with the unveiling of the 2012 Indigenous All Stars team.
The partnership will see the Healing Foundation work with the NRL to promote practical and community based healing initiatives around Australia.
The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Healing Foundation is an independent Indigenous organisation improving the wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people through culturally strong healing programs and by building the skills of communities and workers to deal with trauma.
Established on the first anniversary of the Apology to the Stolen Generations, the Healing Foundation supports healing programs around Australia, provides funding for training and education and undertakes research in the area of Indigenous healing.
Healing Foundation CEO Mr Richard Weston welcomed the partnership, which he said would further highlight the importance of Indigenous healing and the great need for programs that are locally designed and delivered by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
“I am delighted the NRL is deepening its engagement with the Healing Foundation to promote healing for Indigenous Australians,” Mr Weston said.
Held annually, the All Stars match commemorates the Apology to the Stolen Generations. The next All Stars match will take place on 4 February 2012 at Skilled Park on the Gold Coast.
